Contests

Within CATS, a small but enthusiastic band of volunteers regularly participates in a number of contests, mainly on VHF and UHF.

Every month, UK All-Comers (UKAC) contests are held. Always on Tuesday evenings (although this may change for the 50 MHz event) a different band is featured each weekly on a rotating monthly basis.  Various CATS members, as time permits, participate in these events each of  which lasts from 8:00pm to 10:30 pm each evening.

March 2011:

CATS entered the 144/ 432 MHz contest from the usual site on Nore Hill and our log entries are available below.

March 2009:

The pictures above were taken in March 2009 when CATS entered the 144/432 MHz RSGB contest from the Nore Hill site in Warlingham, Surrey.  The club operated two stations over the weekend.

August 2008:

The pictures above were taken in August 2008 when CATS entered the 144/432 MHz RSGB low power contest from the Nore Hill site in Warlingham, Surrey.  In addition to the members shown in the photographs here, on-site assistance was also provided by Ian (M3IGP), Mike (M1CCF),  Rob 2E0AYT, Steve (G3WZK), Steve (G7SYO) and Terry (G4CDY).

From left to right, the pictures show:

CATS results were as follows:

• 144 MHz:   464,940 points gained from 61 QSOs - position 5th  (all results)
• 432 MHz:   191,295 points gained from 39 QSOs - position 4th  (all results)

March 2008:

The pictures above were taken in March 2008 when CATS entered the 144/432 MHz RSGB contest from the Nore Hill site in Warlingham, Surrey.  The club operated two stations over the weekend.  

From left to right, the pictures show:

• General site view, with two masts and the main operating tent. To the left is one of the tents used for members sleeping overnight
• The CATS mast carrying a beam and rotator for 144 MHz. The mast - a new club acquisition at the time - was army surplus. Members took turns to pump it up to its full operating height of almost fifty feet by the time a stub mast and beams were added
• One of our stalwart operators, Frank (G3ZMF), on the 144 MHz station
